Terms of Use

Plot45 (“Plot45”, “we”, “us”) is a data-analysis, graphing, and lab-work suite for students and teachers, operated from South Africa. By using Plot45 you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you accept these Terms on behalf of a school or other organisation, you confirm you are authorised to do so.

1. The service

The core analysis tool (the Workbench) is free for educational use, works entirely in your browser, and does not require an account. Additional features — cloud storage, the Sketch and Write tools, assignments, and student accounts — require signing in, and some require a paid plan. What each plan includes is described on the pricing page, which may change over time.

2. Accounts

Signing in is optional. If you sign in, you must be 16 years or older, or have permission from a parent, guardian, or teacher. You agree to provide accurate information and are responsible for activity under your account. We use third-party sign-in providers (such as Google or Microsoft); we never see or store your password. Keep your account credentials secure — we are not responsible for loss caused by someone else using your account with your credentials.

3. Student accounts and schools

Paid Teacher plans include student accounts: simple username-and-password logins that the teacher creates and manages. Student accounts are designed to hold no student personal information — the teacher chooses the usernames. By creating student accounts, the teacher (and their school) confirms that they are authorised to provide this tool to their students and that any permission or notice their school, education authority, or local law requires has been obtained. Work saved under a student account is visible to the teacher who manages that account — student workspaces are supervised classroom spaces, not private personal accounts, and teachers should make this clear to their students.

4. Paid plans and billing

• Plans and seats. Paid plans are billed per teacher, per year, and include a set number of student accounts; additional student seats can be purchased as add-ons. Current prices are on the pricing page.
• Purchasing. Plans may be purchased through our payment provider or arranged by quote and invoice (email sales@plot45.com). A plan is active once payment is received.
• Renewal and expiry. Plans run for the period purchased. If a plan is not renewed, paid features stop at the end of the paid period; see the Refund Policy for what happens to your files after that.
• Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. Price changes never apply retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
• Transfers. A plan is tied to the teacher account it was purchased for. If a teacher leaves and the school needs the plan moved to a different account, contact us — we will help where we reasonably can, but we cannot guarantee that account contents can be transferred in every case.
• Refunds are governed by the Refund Policy.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service — for example, attempting to disrupt it, gain unauthorised access, probe or overload our systems or providers, resell access, or use it unlawfully. We may suspend or terminate access that breaches these Terms.

6. Your data and work

Your data, graphs, sketches, and documents are yours. We claim no ownership of them. When you save work to the cloud, you give us permission to store, process, and display that work as needed to run the service (for example, storing it with our infrastructure providers, showing a student's work to their teacher, or embedding a graph in a report you create). Unless you sign in and save to the cloud, your work stays in your own browser. See our Privacy Policy for details.

7. Storage, retention, and backups

Cloud features are provided using reputable third-party infrastructure (currently Supabase for accounts and file storage, Netlify for hosting, and Cloudflare for DNS). We are a small company and do not operate our own servers; our storage and availability commitments can never exceed what those providers deliver. We do not guarantee that stored work can never be lost, and you should keep your own copies of important work — every Plot45 tool can download your files to your device, and we encourage you to use this for anything that matters (for example, coursework being submitted for assessment).

• Active accounts. We keep your cloud files while your account is active and in good standing.
• After a paid plan ends. See the Refund Policy — in short, files are kept for at least 30 days after expiry, and we may delete them after that.
• Inactive accounts. We may delete accounts (and their files) that have not been signed in to for more than 12 months. Where we have an email address for the account, we will attempt to give notice before doing so.
• On request. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time.

8. Service changes and availability

We work to keep Plot45 available and improving, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may add, change, or remove features, or suspend or discontinue part or all of the service. If we discontinue a paid feature or the paid service entirely, we will give paid account holders reasonable notice where possible and refund the unused portion of any prepaid period — that refund is the full extent of our obligation in that case.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, abuses the service, or creates risk for us, our providers, or other users. You may stop using Plot45, or ask us to delete your account, at any time.

10. No warranty and accuracy of results

Plot45 is an educational aid provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. While we work hard to get the maths right, we do not guarantee that any calculation, curve fit, uncertainty, statistic, graph, or other output is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.

You are solely responsible for independently checking and verifying any result before relying on it — whether for coursework, assessments, examinations, research, or any other purpose. Plot45 is a tool to support your own analysis; it does not replace your own understanding, working, or judgement.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Plot45 and its owner are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind — including but not limited to lost or reduced marks, lost data, lost time, or any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service or anything produced with it. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for all claims combined is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the claim arose (or, if you have paid nothing, USD 10). Nothing in these Terms limits rights that consumer law (including the South African Consumer Protection Act) gives you that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Academic integrity and attribution

You are responsible for using Plot45 in line with the academic-integrity, honesty, and referencing rules of your school, college, university, or examination board, and for citing or acknowledging your use of tools and sources as those rules require. You must not present work produced with Plot45 in a way that misrepresents your own contribution.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give notice — for example by email to account holders or a notice on the site. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
