Privacy Policy

Plot45 is built to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what happens to it. Plot45 is operated by Plot45 (Pty) Ltd (registration no. 2026/511425/07), a company registered in the Republic of South Africa, and this policy is written with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in mind.

If you don't sign in

You can use the analysis tool without an account. Your data and graphs are saved only in your own browser (local storage); they are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly service that is cookieless and collects no personal data, just anonymous, aggregated usage (page views and a few feature events). There is nothing that identifies you, which is why Plot45 shows no cookie banner.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional. When you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google or Microsoft), we receive a basic profile (your email address, name, and a provider account ID) which is stored by our authentication provider, Supabase. We never see or store your password. A small sign-in token is kept in your browser so you stay signed in. When you are signed in, your work is not kept in the browser's local storage; it lives in your account instead, so nothing personal is left behind on a shared computer after you sign out.

When you create an account we ask whether you are a teacher or a student, the school where you teach or study, and (for teachers) the subjects and year groups you work with. The city is optional. We use these answers to set up your account and to understand who uses Plot45; you can ask us to correct or delete them at any time.

When you create your account, and when you sign in, we also keep a broad note of the kind of device and browser you used (for example, a phone using the Instagram app's built-in browser) and, if you arrived through one of our campaign links, the name of the campaign. We use this to understand and fix sign-up problems on different devices. It holds no precise device details, no location, and no advertising identifiers.

Work you save to the cloud

Files you save to your workspace (labs, sketches, documents) are stored with Supabase and linked to your account. We don't read, mine, or analyse the content of your files; they are processed only to provide the service (saving, opening, showing a student's work to their teacher, embedding a figure in a report).

Student accounts

Student logins on a Teacher plan are designed to hold no student personal information: the teacher chooses a username, and no student email address, real name, or other identifying detail is required by us. What a student saves under that account is visible to their teacher; student workspaces are supervised classroom spaces. A teacher may add an optional display name to a student login (often a first name); it is visible only to that teacher and that student, and if used, it is under the teacher's and school's control, like anything else a teacher chooses to put in a username or file. Because these are teacher-managed classroom logins, the class-login password is visible to the teacher in their roster, so a lost password never locks a student out of their work.

Students aged 16 or older may instead join a class with their own account (signing in with Google or Microsoft, as described above). That account stays the student's own: we hold the same basic sign-in profile (email address and name), the teacher never sees or controls its password, and joining is by the student's request with the teacher's approval. While the student is in the class, their assignment work and any files they choose to share are visible to their teacher; files from before they joined start private, and a per-file control in their workspace lets them share or unshare anything else. The teacher (and, on a school plan, that school) can see the name and email address the student joined with. Leaving the class ends the teacher's access to their work and is available to the student at any time in their Settings.

Quotes and contact forms

If you request a quote or contact us, we receive what you submit, typically your name, work email, school, role, and location. We use it only to respond, prepare the quote, and manage the resulting subscription. Form submissions are processed by Netlify (our hosting provider) and delivered to our mailbox, which is hosted by Google Workspace.

How we use information

Account and contact information is used to sign you in, provide the features you use, manage subscriptions and billing, and respond to you. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Email from Plot45

We send account email as part of the service: a welcome message, trial and renewal notices, and messages about changes to your access or plan. These go to the address on your account and are not optional while you hold one. Separately, you can choose at sign-up (yes or no) to receive occasional tips email; we send it only if you said yes, and you can stop it at any time by emailing us or using the link in the email itself.

Service providers

We are a small company and rely on established providers to run Plot45. Your information is handled by them on our behalf:

These providers store data in data centres that may be outside your country. Each is bound by its own security and privacy commitments; our protection of your data relies on, and cannot exceed, theirs.

Retention and deletion

We keep account data and cloud files while your account is active. After a paid plan ends, cloud files are kept for at least 30 days (see the Refund Policy) and may be deleted after that. We may also close an account that has not been signed in to for a long time. We email the address on the account first, and signing in within 30 days of that email keeps the account open; if nobody signs in, the account and the work saved in it are deleted. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time. Email us and we will action it within a reasonable time. Residual copies may persist briefly in our providers' backups until those cycle out.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@plot45.com from the address on your account and we will help. If you are in a region with specific privacy rights (such as POPIA or the GDPR), we will honour requests those laws give you.

Children

Signing in with your own account requires you to be 16 or older, or to have permission from a parent, guardian, or teacher. Younger students can use Plot45 without an account, or through a teacher-managed student login, which is designed to hold no personal information about them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will post the update here and note the date above.
